City of Lewisville, LISD, Partner to Open New Community Playground

City of Lewisville, LISD, Partner to Open New Community Playground

Lewisville ISD, in partnership with the City of Lewisville, proudly celebrated the grand opening of the new Hedrick Wranglers Park, a new community park, on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Hedrick Middle School.

District and school leaders, city officials, students, and community members gathered to commemorate the completion of this exciting new outdoor space—made possible through the 2023 bond and a shared commitment to expanding recreational opportunities for local families.

In 2019, when the district determined that Hedrick Elementary would not be rebuilt, LISD and the City of Lewisville established a School Yard Parks agreement to continue serving local families. Through this partnership, the district committed to building a community playground on the property of the rebuilt Hedrick Middle School, while the City committed to rebuilding the playground at Queen Margaret Park for Castle Hills Elementary, ensuring continued access to quality outdoor spaces for the community.

Spanning approximately 20,000 square feet, Hedrick Wranglers Park transforms a previously underutilized portion of campus into a vibrant, inclusive space designed for children and families of all ages. The playground features three distinct zones, including an active play area for younger children, a creative play space to inspire imagination, and a fitness challenge zone to promote multigenerational wellness.

Following remarks from Superintendent Dr. Lori Rapp, City of Lewisville Mayor TJ Gilmore, Lewisville High School Student, and former Hedrick student, Jace Hall, former Superintendent Dr. Kevin Rogers and LISD School Board Vice President Katherine Sells, attendees joined together for an official ribbon cutting before enjoying the new playground.

This new community amenity supports the City of Lewisville’s 10-minute walk-to-a-park goal and reflects the ongoing partnership between LISD and the City to invest in spaces that benefit students and the broader community.
